Heracles goes before Hades and asks to borrow Cerberus for a bit, so that the hero can complete his final labor. This ticks Heracles off, so when he meets some Minyans on the road he cuts off their ears, noses, and hands. As we've seen in the preceding section (Labor 4), Hercules enjoyed the finer, costly things in life, including a large meat meal like the one the unfortunate Pholus provided him. Usually Diomedes finds food for them by feeding to them all travelers who land on his shores. In Liguria, sons of Poseidon tried to rob him of the prize, but he killed them.
