That’s what I see in the scripts to date and that’s what has been pitched to me in terms of what’s going to happen with Holt and the precinct in the future. Join 70,000 other Hollywood insiders! Interview with Andre Braugher from Brooklyn Nine-Nine Posted on September 28, 2014 by Jenny Andre Braugher, who plays Captain Holt on FOX’s Booklyn Nine-Nine , recently spoke to the press about the new season, his character, and more. I’ve enjoyed our Thanksgiving and Christmas episodes. I will say that Holt is a man who embraces change. I enjoyed “The Party.”  “The Party” was really an opportunity to see everyone in a really drastically different atmosphere than the bullpen, and I just found it to be a lot of fun. Braugher recently spoke with Gold Derby contributing editor Matt Noble about the evolution of Raymond Holt, what initially attracted him to “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” and what he’s looking forward to in the future. I couldn’t say. Andre Braugher: Groundbreaking? It would be great to see some of these guys, but I’m not sure that Dan or Mike are planning those kind of reunions. NOW! During this recent interview to promote the return the show’s sophomore season, actor Andre Braugher talked about what he’s most excited about with Season 2, working with guest star Kyra Sedgwick, what initially drew him to the show and character, whether the atmosphere on set has changed at all, what he’s enjoyed most about being a part of the show, playing the straight man, and whether he might direct an episode. With a new police commissioner and the return of my ace detective, Peralta, I feel as though the entire precinct is poised to get better, to leave the world of the sleepy, underperforming Brooklyn precinct and really become something special. See latest Oscar predictions by our top Experts. , she’s such a superb actress and she’s so funny and she’s played a lot of tough gals in the course of her career but she’s such a sweetheart and she’s such a terrific comedian and delivers her role with a kind of crazy quirkiness that I really respond to and it was just fun. I find myself working in a similar way, but the effect is just much lighter. Cops and robbers resemble each other, so there's not a lot to learn in terms of learning the logistics of committing the crime or investigating the crime. AB: She was. While based in the workplace, the ensemble series focuses on the men and women behind the badge. Cops and robbers resemble each other, so there's not a lot to learn in terms of learning the logistics of committing the crime or … I pretty much stick to the script because that’s my job, but they really take off. What initially drew you to play Captain Ray Holt? You work with so many talented people on “Brooklyn Nine-Nine.” Who, in your opinion, is the most amazing human/genius? I can’t tell you what they are right now. I am a fan of Parks and Rec and I saw, over the seasons that they created, an ever-expanding world of loveable goofballs, and they were quite adept at creating a mature, interesting comedy. I mean, comedians are very spontaneous, very sharp, with a really interesting sort of perspective, so I think of Joe Lo Truglio and Andy Samberg and Chelsea Peretti, they all have a real interesting perspective on the world and watching them improv and watching the way that they construct their comedy has been really instructive to me. AB: You are challenging me in ways I never expected (laughs). My only question for Dan [Goor] and I remember that question clearly is I asked Dan, in essence, “Why is Captain Holt gay? Do you feel like Holt is a ground-breaking character, in any way? What’s it like to play the stoic Holt, opposite Andy Samberg playing Jake, who just cracks everyone else up in the precinct? As an actor, I’m just not in a position to put out an offer or to write the roles. Andre Braugher: My favorite part of filming the show? I feel very grandfatherly in that way. AB: I thought it was a funny episode. Talking about Andy, have you seen “Palm Springs”?
