If that's not a compliment, I don't know any. User Ratings The other reason I wanted to like this film is because I believe in independent and/or low budget cinema, especially from here in the good old UK. She did what she could with what she was given. Okay, so far so good, then why exactly isn't "Lord of Tears" as magnificent as it ought to be? Coming Soon, Regal I mean, I am pretty tolerant of cheese you guys, but this stinks. However, I do admit that the film is a worthwhile and well-crafted attempt at traditional & spooky horror with beautiful scenery and filming locations, an admirably melancholic ambiance and – most of all – an authentically creepy monster! it's all so terribly bad that I couldn't even finish watching this aberration. The antagonist spirit in the film is nothing short of disturbing, and the script preys off of basic human fears of the unknown. The Owl Man, which you can admire on the cover artwork, is a nightmarish creature with impressive mask and claws that demands for a specific type of sacrifices. There are glaring continuity errors (one scene he is having a particularly bad nightmare in bed and runs screaming from the room somehow fully clothed in a suit..)and some very incongruous background music just appears.
Wish I had visited pornhub instead. It is fittingly surreal, without tumbling into absurdity.
Well, the propaganda was strong on this one. Well worth watching but be warned - if you're watching it alone you might feel a cold hand on your shoulder before it's over! 20 min later I'm twisting in pain, and not in a good way (if there's such thing).
Film Review: Lord of Tears (2013) Adrian Halen 11/13/2013 Film Reviews. Holy cow, what a cringefest. All rights reserved. So the first and evident thing is this was done on a low budget; I'm OK with that, I prioritize a good script, directing skills, photography and dialogs over cgi and expensive technology. Brewster compensates for the lack of variety through (over-)long sequences that stylishly build up tension and atmosphere, but they lead absolutely nowhere. Rotten Tomatoes, home of the Tomatometer, is the most trusted measurement of quality for Movies & TV. This story is very reminiscent of "traditional" horror stories that I used to read as a kid, M.R James as an example. She is embarrassingly cheesy in the third act, which I won't spoil here, but that is entirely the fault of the filmmakers.
The establishing shots are some of the most beautiful ever put to film, capturing the haunting beauty of the on-location filming grounds. It's that good.
The acting is superb as well. The lead actors ability is to me only a few small steps above infomercial quality. The timid school teacher James Findlay has been plagued by visions of this creature ever since his childhood, but now he can confront his traumas because James' mother died and he inherited the parental "Baldurroc Mansion" in the Scottish Highlands.

If that's not a compliment, I don't know any. To be fair, the scenery was beautiful and the setting deserved a better movie. Regal Sidney Poitier’s 7 Most Memorable Performances, All Harry Potter Movies Ranked Worst to Best by Tomatometer, Jake Gyllenhaal Will Star in HBO Limited Series.

They won't be able to see your review if you only submit your rating. TERRIBLE acting! | Cinemark and there is not one single thing that I can say about it that should be changed. I saved watching this DVD (I pledged and got an advance copy, wrapped beautifully in black rafia paper with a single, solitary owl feather (the reference will become clear later) a real Gothic halloween present!) That rule, which is an entirely personal one, is that if you're going to take yourself dead seriously with your horror movie, you damn well better have good acting. (https://www.facebook.com/lordoftearsmovie) This sort of horror movie is what has been missing in movies for about thirty years. After reading a number of really positive reviews on sites like Bloody Disgusting etc I decided to take the plunge and bought the Blu-ray collector's edition. Your story has to embrace camp in order for bad acting to have any hope of working. Beautiful stuff. Dedicated, appropriately, to Christopher Lee it upholds those values his movies strove to maintain. All rights reserved. What an experience it is and I absolutely loved it. Wow, either director Lawrie Brewster recruited all his friends and relatives to give high ratings and write favorable reviews for his film, OR none of the avid fanatics around here has ever seen a genuinely atmospheric Gothic horror movie. The percentage of users who rated this 3.5 stars or higher. Just a short few words to say that this film has to be in my opinion one of the most enjoyable I have seen . I loved this film for so many reasons...the atmosphere it created the vision of the director and the way he visualized it on film...the well written story and the choice of locations...Alexandra Hulme was brilliantly cast and gave a fantastic performance throughout...as a fan of soundtrack in films the music helped create the eerie atmosphere and intensified the suspense...I knew nothing about this film before watching it as I like and it kept me interested entertained and guessing all the way through...something new and different that I would describe as being like an episode of the 'tales of the unexpected' directed by Jan Svankmajer. 2) The lead actress is absolutely gorgeous here, and her performance singlehandedly carried me through to the end, which I could barely believe I made it to. Imbued with creepiness from the opening, this is a fabulous ride into psychological horror - I enjoyed it more than I thought I would!
